RWD is equipped with quality people to manage the daily activities of the company:

Director of Operations, Roderick L. Foreman has been asocial activist in inner-city Los Angeles. He has worked on the campaign staffs of such honored community politicians as: Diane Watson, Marguerite Archie, Dave Cunningham, Maxine Water, Yvonne Braithwaite-Burke, and Eddie Vincent. Mr. Foreman has also worked with, and shared the philosophical views of both the Crenshaw Youth Consortium and the Brotherhood Crusade. He also played a critical role alongside Inglewood Mayor Dorn and the late Pastor E.V. Hill in the opening of the Edgewood Group Home in Inglewood. Most recently, Mr. Foreman volunteered on the campaign of Assemblyman Herb Wesson Jr. Mr. Foreman has built a strong reputation as a community leader who follows through on his vision to create a better society. Mr. Foreman holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Pre-Law from Chadron State University, where he was also inducted into the College Hall of Fame as an outstanding football athlete.

Nutritional Advocacy Director, Linda Johnson has practical experience in a variety of fields including the Aerospace Industry, Education, and politics. She has always been very active in social community organizations, and has supported the community as a lobbyist for different social causes. She is a member of the Los Angeles Sheriffs Clergy Council. As a community activist, she worked in the state of Ohio in the Hero's Program as a "Get Out the Vote" advocate in the 2004 Presidential election. Ms. Johnson is the host of the television show "Yes You Can" where she has the opportunity to meet with important city officials and advocate for the improvement of the inner-city community. As the Secretary of Finance at Northrop Aerospace, she managed and organized the corporate budgets. In addition, she has done community outreach with at-risk youth at elementary and high schools. Ms. Johnson holds an Associate's Degree in Arts in Business English and a Bachelor's of Arts in Business Administration. Her many years of experience and dedication to the community have molded her into a well-rounded individual, competent and committed to the success of this program.

Development Director, Keenan Shaw

Keenan Shaw will be the Development Director of the organization. He will be in charge of the fiscal sustainability of the project. We acknowledge that grant subsidies from the City of Los Angeles and the Federal Government are of limited supply, and that the program needs to be built to last in the absence of such funds. Mr. Shaw has been awarded over $250,000 in grant subsidies for non-profit organizations in California. He has several years of experience in writing winning proposals to government, community, and family foundations. Mr. Shaw is a graduate of Columbia University, with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in American Studies.

Health Care

Health care (often healthcare in American English), is the treatment and management of illness, and the preservation of health through services offered by the medicaldental, complementary and alternative medicinepharmaceutical, clinical sciences (in vitro diagnostics), nursing, and allied health professions. Health care embraces all the goods and services designed to promote health, including “preventive, curative and palliative interventions, whether directed to individuals or to populations”.

Before the term health care became popular, English-speakers referred to medicine or to the health sector and spoke of the treatment and prevention of illness and disease. The social and political issue of access to healthcare in the US has led to public debate and confusing use of terms such as health care (medical management of illness or disease), health insurance (reimbursement of health care costs), and the public health (the collective state and range of health in a population). The public health is related most to economic development and wealth distribution, and health insurance is a business which both provides and restricts reimbursement for healthcare itself in the event of disease, or in access to of medical healthcare in individual health-seeking, -promoting or -maintaining behaviours. -- Wikipedia

The rising cost of health care in this country is staggering. Paying for health care for underserved minorities has become virtually unaffordable. Experts agree that the best way to avoid life threatening disease later in life is to seek preventative health care. Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) charge such high premiums for visits to physicians that preventative health care for both minors and adults is generally never sought out. African-Americans are much more likely to be enrolled in public healthcare programs (Medicaid) than their white counterparts. Treatment at hospitals in the inner-city like, King-Harbor Hospital in South Central Los Angeles, generally have poorer service, less-qualified physicians, longer wait times, and higher death rates. The reputations of hospitals in the inner-city serve as deterrents to African-Americans who seek care for their illnesses. RWD is seeking to partner with Cedar-Sinai hospital, which generally serves upper-class whites, to offer recipients of the housing program, health care from Cedar-Sinai physicians, free of charge. While we cannot offer this program to all in the community due to cost restrictions, it is important to be able to provide an alternative to the current health care system. The endowment of RWD as a 501 (c) 3ensures that the hospital is paid for participation in the program, and that the program will expand as resources become available.

Nutrition

One of the most proven ways to prevent visits to major hospital is proper nutrition and exercise. Part of the endowment for RWD will be invested the Nutritional Advocacy Program. The Nutritional Advocacy Program will teach classes on food preparation and the principles of healthy dieting. Two new health food co-op/ pharmacies will be built in the South Central Los Angeles region. The facilities will be staffed by qualified professionals including a nutritionist and pharmacist from the community. Customers will be able to obtain dietary analysis and daily meal plans drawn up as a service of the facility. In addition, customers who participate in the0020program will be evaluated, based on their vital statistics, to see if the program is working. Currently, there is only one health food store in the greater Los Angeles region that is located near the inner city. Prices of food and the rising price of gas are serious deterrents to seeking healthy alternatives to the food offered at the comer stores. This will not only be an important part of company revenues, it will help achieve the mission of improving the quality of life for African-Americans in South Central Los Angeles.

Research

RWD exists to serve the underprivileged and underrepresented population of greater Los Angeles. Research indicates that African-Americans in Los Angeles continue to struggle in comparisons to whites, Latinos and Asians in statistical indicators of health and wealth (1). The following statistics aide the process in which we structure and implement quality programs.

•   1 in 5 African-American households in Los Angeles are Single Parents
•   2 out of 3 live in housing that is not owner occupied
•   Black or African American householders reported a median household income that was 24.4 percent less than the all population median published in the 2000 Census, with a median of $37,329.
•   Today, African Americans comprise only 13% of the U.S. population but account for over half of all new HIV/AIDS diagnoses.
•   African American males are 3 times more likely to have diabetes as all men in this age group, and African American women are 2.5 times as likely to be diagnosed with diabetes
